End-to-End Analysis of Wireless and Internet Video Streaming?
نویسنده
چکیده
Wireless and Internet video communications require an integrated approach in which the system is optimized in an end-to-end fashion. Parametric behavioral models are needed to determine the importance of the optimization of the communication system’s components without relying too much on the particular choice of how a component is realized or implemented. These models describe the external behavior of a component, and rely on theoretical or empirical evidence. Most models include a number of parameters that need to be chosen for a particular system, or – if real-time adaptations are desired – the need to be estimated dynamically. For that reason the focus of this report is on the functional form of the models, rather than on the absolute setting of constants or parameters. This document poses a video-streaming model that will serve as basis for end-to-end analysis, and it sets a first step in collecting appropriate parametric behavioral models needed for the analysis.

The Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...

Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) has become the application that drives the Internet to a new height. However, challenges still remain in IPTV in-home distribution. The high-quality video streaming in IPTV services demands home networks to deliver video streaming packets with stringent Quality-of-Service (QoS) requirements. Currently, most service providers recommend Ethernet-based broadband...
متن کاملEnd-to-End Internet Video Traffic Dynamics: Statistical Study and Analysis
In this paper, we analyze the dynamics of a sevenmonth real-time streaming experiment, which was conducted between a number of unicast dialup clients, connecting to the Internet through access points in more than 600 major U.S. cities, and a backbone video server. During the experiment, the clients streamed low-bitrate MPEG-4 video sequences from the server over paths with more than 5,000 disti...
متن کاملWireless FGS video transmission using adaptive mode selection and unequal error protection
FGS (Fine Granularity Scalability) is a scalable coding technique which can provide flexibility and good performance for Internet video streaming. However, FGS is not suitable for wireless video streaming. This is mainly because the low coding efficiency of FGS does not fit the limited bandwidth of wireless networks. In this paper, we jointly consider mode selection and UEP (unequal error prote...
متن کاملTransparent Cross-Layer Rate Adaption of Progressive Multimedia Streams for Wired and Wireless Networks
Real-time multimedia transfer through the Internet becomes more difficult when wireless links are in the path, due to the time varying channel capacity, from interference and multipath fading effects which introduce additional stochastic variations beyond the wireline network traffic effects. These wireless variations create problems for existing end-to-end rate adaption using feedback. This pa...
